We’re also known for winning football championships, and while that’s something to be proud of, winning the national obesity championship is not something that Auburn or Alabama fans need to strive for.
I think it would be fair to say that about 98% of the Alabama population is a sports fan of either Alabama or Auburn. I believe it might even be stated in the Alabama Constitution that in order to be a resident of Alabama you have to choose between being a fan of Alabama or Auburn.
So whose fans are the fattest?
I would call it a tied game. And if we do not do something about it in overtime, we will have to go to sudden death, unfortunately. The population of Alabama has a shocking and unhealthy obesity rate of over 35%. That means that more than one out of three people in Alabama might be heavy enough to play on the offensive line of either school! There are just four states with a higher rate of obesity than Alabama: West Virginia, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana. It sounds a lot like the SEC west.
With all of the hoopla about low fat, low carb, teaching kids how to eat healthy and hundreds of other programs to help people lose weight, we have just gotten fatter than ever in Alabama. So what do we do?
We just eat a little less, and exercise a little more, which is what this blog is all about.
It’s just simple blocking and tackling. I have heard they already do that in Caloriefornia.
