The first 12 weeks of 2015 is the perfect time to commit yourself to a life of being Skinny and Debt Free. In fact, this might be the best time ever. Gas prices are down, tax refunds are coming, and a healthier relationship with food will give you insight into losing both weight and debt. The best news of all is that when you lose weight and debt, you significantly reduce stress and increase your sense of control over your life.
Here are 3 ideas that can help you get off to a good start in 2015:
- Use your weekly gas savings to pay off stressful debt.. Gas prices in 2015 are about $1.75 less per gallon than the highest gas price in 2014. This amounts to about $25.00 in savings each week. Put that $25.00 saving each week to your most stressful debt.
- Use cold hard cash, to pay for meals, groceries, beer, alcohol, or anything else to do with food or eating. It’s much harder to spend money when you are paying with cash. If you’re committed to losing weight and debt, you will uncover numerous ways to save money and lose weight by paying cash. I would suggest turning 12% of your paycheck into cash to use for all food related expenses. Whatever money you have left over when you get your next paycheck, use to pay off your most stressful debt.
- Put your entire tax refund check on past due debt. This is extremely important if you are serious about getting out of debt. The average American last year received a little more than a $3,000 tax refund. The amount is expected to go up this year. When you are totally out of debt, this annual tax refund can be used for savings and investment, and or to build up your emergency fund.
If you’re living within your means, then these 3 suggestions will help you free up about $3600 by March 31. I would suggest you pay this windfall you have created, on your most stressful debts first. Get rid of them forever. You will gain confidence and a sense of control over your life.
